A review of the season so far – 2012/3
A spokesperson from the club said ‘Cancer has had a devastating effect on the club recently and the decision to make Cancer Research UK the clubs sole Charity was an easy one, the hard work the people of this charity put in to fighting Cancer is unbelievable and they need all the help they can get and we will do all we can to aid this. In May last year a charity football match in memory of former club Physio Eric Turner was held in aid of cancer research raising nearly £1000. And the club has set this as a bench mark to break for any events being held in future. The first event pencilled in is what will be the Football Clubs Official Annual Charity match to be held on Saturday 11th May 2013. Victoria Goldsmith, Cancer Research UK’s Area Volunteer Manager for Bedfordshire, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Arlesey Town FC have decided to support us and raise money for Cancer Research UK.” Cancer Research UK spent more than £42 million last year on leading scientific and clinical research in East Anglia. We fund groundbreaking research throughout the region, from clinical trials running at nearby hospitals, to our Cancer Research UK Centre at Cambridge. Our Centres bring together experts in the local medical and scientific community to translate research into benefits for patients as quickly as possible. Cancer death rates in East Anglia have fallen by almost a quarter over the last twenty years FOR FURTHER MEDIA INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT: For further information about Cancer Research UK’s work to find out how to support the charity, please call 08701 60 20 40 or visit www.cancerresearchuk.org.uk.
